Microdosing Monday 3/4/24
Its Monday. It’s March. We’re six days away from springing forward into daylight savings time, and I’ve been debating all morning if springing ahead has any personal benefits. I think it’ll be light outside later, no? If the sun sets at 6:30, it’ll set at 7:30 now, right? I’m not good at math, or time, or calendars, but as a late in the day enthusiast I do appreciate a later, longer sunset.
Anyway, the time doesn’t change until six more days, and if you know me, there are many days in which I live three.
Last week as a writer was predominantly spent writing. Wild. I know. I finished a blog post about my reading at the Bokeh Lounge on 2/20 (that’ll release on Substack tomorrow) and completed a handful of poems. I chipped away at a short story, worked a little on a novel that’s sat dormant too long. I worked some on the poetry manuscript for my first collection. I mailed out six copies of my first novel, and one copy of my latest one to complete purchase orders.
Oh, yeah! And on Friday last week the Toledo City Paper announced I’d won the voting for Best writer/author in Toledo. I fielded a lot of back pats and virtual hugs for that all weekend. What an honor.
Being a new month there are new poetry magazines and anthologies dropping all over the place. This month is rare for me in that my poetry appears in two pretty stout anthologies: Cajun Mutt Press’ of Illinois and their Night Owl Narrative Vol. 3, and Pure Sleeze Press’ of Indiana and their Tickets to Midnight Vol. 2. Both anthologies are jam packed with highly talented artists and writers, and I’m honored to be amongst them. One note: my most infamous dirty poem, Three Fingers in Your Mother is published in Tickets to Midnight.

Looking forward to this week, I’ve got nothing but hustling and writing to accomplish, except for Friday March 8th when I’ll get to attend a winners only reception for the Toledo City Paper Best of Awards.
Looking ahead this month
Friday March 15th I’ll be in Portsmouth, OH reading at the Landing with J.I.B. Damian Rucci, Nikki Blankenship, Ezhno Martin, Zach Hannah and a couple of bands.
Friday March 22nd I’ll be at the Toledo Club for the Toledo City Paper’s official Best of Awards ceremony and reception. That’ll be open to the public, but tickets are $40. Wonder if they’ll let me read a poem?
Saturday April 27 I’ll be at Bards & Busker fest in Kentucky. There’ll be over 20 poets from all over and three bands at the all day festival.
It’s a new week, and I feel like there’s a lot of loved ones struggling with so many crazy things going on in life. I’m trying to make an extra effort lately to be kind to myself, and to give a few extra smiles to others each day. It makes me feel better when I make the effort. Maybe you’ll consider that this week, too.
Thanks for all your love and support.

this lady was in front of me at the post office this week. She gave me permission to photo her shirt.
the funniest meme I saw all week. Laughter is good.
Loving the better weather. Lots of reading and writing outdoors last week. This is the view from my chair outside the camper.
