Hello. Good to see you all again. Happy Monday.
It’s hot, and when you get frustrated with that, and start looking for those “boohoo I hate winter people” so that you have someone to blame, look no further. It was me. I’ll take 90 degrees and humid over bullshit winter all day long and twice with yo momma.
Last week was steam from boiled water. There were books, music, art, a beach and love. What more could be wanted?
I got to be a small part of a huge night when I opened for Toledo singer/songwriter Ben Stalets and his album release party last Friday. More on that later.
And DJ Amjad ended his Saturday night Deep Mix radio show by reading my poem, “Uncle Sam Wants You.”

This week looms like fog on a highway.
Come see me perform live…screeeeech. Check that, I’ve got no scheduled feature readings during the whole next month of July, and that’s ok it.
What have I been reading? Thought you’d never ask. I finished Westley Heine’s latest “Cloud Watching in the Inferno,” and it’s no secret that I’m a fan of Wes’ work, and this is by far his best stuff yet. I’ll have a little write up about it eventually. It’s good.
And I’ve been reading some Nikki Giovanni poetry and not much else, because when I write fiction I stop reading anything but poetry, pretty much, until the project is done. And I’ve been hard at work on something new. Something cool. Hopefully something good.
What am I smoking? As a medical marijuana patient that fully supports complete recreational legalization of weed, I’ve been smoking some pretty high fire Biscotti, an indica leaning hybrid strain with that crosses Girl Scout Cookies and a diesel strain, although which ones are uncertain. It tests out at 25% THC and is sought after for relief of pain, anxiety and depression.
Here we are, happy hippie hugs and affirmations time. And here’s a big big secret that I saw summed up in a poem recently: the cure is in the work. Want to be happier, work at it and I promise you’ll find more of it. Mental health bad? Get help and work at it. I promise it’ll improve. Want to be a writer? Work at it and you’ll find out how. The cure is in the work. The cure is in the work.
And this is short because I’m trying to finish the first draft of a new novel this week. Wish me luck.
Love,
Dan
Ps. Did you know that I sometimes dabble in collage work? It’s true, and I’m always looking for magazines and collage material. Right now I’m looking for automotive magazines and printed paraphernalia, and I’m always looking for any mags that aren’t from the grocery store rack, although, I’ll use those, too. Got a bunch of magazines laying around? You could ship them for media mail rate through U.S.P.S. fairly cheap, and I’d love to have them. Namaste.
It is cooking outside, isn't it? Glad to see the heat doesn't affect your creativity.
