My Father's Hands
Poem of the Week
Happy Sunday. I’m glad we’re all here together on this Father’s Day.
This is a poem that I wrote for my Dad.
My Father's Hands
as a child
I marveled at my father's hands
the backs of them tough
and scaled like lizard skin
his palms rough and dry
cracked and bleeding
I remember my mother rubbing lotion
on his hands in the evenings
and now, I'm 38
and I noticed today
that the backs of my hands
are tough and scaled
just like my father's were
a lifetime of factory work
and the palms of my hands
are rough and dry
my hands ache
and keep me awake at night
it gives me time to ponder the irony
I have my Father's hands
@Dan Denton 2017 You can hear a recording of me reading the poem here.
I didn’t have a good childhood, but I did have a Dad that adopted me, and he did the best he could with what he had to work with. He also had a stubborn work ethic, something I was able to learn from him.
My favorite sunset photo from the past week. The corn is sprouting in the fields around the homestead where me and my camper, The Scrapes of Wrath, are staying.
I have another trip to Portsmouth, OH next weekend to act and film for the new indie moving that I’m starring in. After this trip, I have one more mid-July, when I’ll be down there shooting, reading poetry, and making movies for an entire week.
With that in mind…
Remember that limited print chapbook of mine that Pure Sleeze Press published earlier this year, Fuel for the Resistance? It sold out within 48 hours, and several people wanted one and couldn’t get them.
With the permission of Pure Sleeze, I present to you the “official” bootleg copy!
You can get one for just $6, and that includes shipping (also send a mailing address)
PayPal @dandenton1978

One dollar from every book sold will be donated back to Pure Sleeze Press. They help pay a stipend to traveling poets and they help support the greater Evansville, IN poetry scene, one of the most inclusive scenes I’ve seen, and I’ve been all over the country. They’re good people over there.
Thanks for all of your love and support, and a happy Father’s Day wish to all the Dads reading this today.
Love,
Dan
